Earlier today we reported that security researcher and hacker, Min Zheng aka SparkZheng, may have successfully jailbroken iOS 11.3, and had shared the screenshot of Cydia installed on his iPhone.
But he has clarified that it wasn’t a jailbreak because he “didn’t remount the rootfs to R/W and install Cydia”. He also added that it was because “Apple had added a new mitigation on iOS 11.3 in APFS KEXT” which needs to be bypassed.
But the good news is we may get an iOS 11.2 – iOS 11.2.6 jailbreak by none other than coolstar, the developer of Electra Jailbreak, the popular iOS 11.1.2 jailbreak.
In response to Zheng’s tweet, iOS hacker Chris Wade shared an iOS 11.2 – iOS 11.2.6 kernel exploit which coolstar has suggested could be used to develop an iOS 11.2 – iOS 11.2.6 jailbreak as he has advised jailbreakers to stay on iOS 11.2 – iOS 11.2.6.
It was not possible to jailbreak iOS 11.2 or later using Electra Jailbreak as Apple had patched the exploit in iOS 11.2 that were used by the Electra Jailbreak tool. It is great to see coolstar plans to work on the jailbreak as there were some concerns that he has quit the jailbreak after describing his ordeal while working on the last jailbreak. I hope people will leave him alone so that he can work on adding support for iOS 11.2 – iOS 11.2.6 to Electra Jailbreak, and not harass him by asking for ETAs etc.
Are you still on iOS 11.2.6 or lower? Are you excited about the possibility of an iOS 11.2 – 11.2.6 jailbreak. Let us know in the comments below.
